Newlands Park: Saturday 6th September 2008

Full details of the band’s next extravaganza now on the gigs page.

6th August 2008

Barrowland gig

Many thanks to all those who bought tickets and attended the gig on Saturday at Barrowland 2. The boys fairly enjoyed being the headline act at such a legendary venue, and indeed the place has to get a 5 star rating as a venue from the enormous stage to the brilliantly down at heel dressing rooms.

It’s a bit of shame the bill was reduced (although it gave the boys a longer set and the chance of an encore, which they took) as this affected the overrall size of the crowd.

All in all, a hassle-free gig well organised by KMR Promotions to whom we have to give a special vote of thanks. The sound on stage was great, and downright loud too. The band has been getting very positive feedback, and by all accounts, was on top form. New song Down and Out went down very well as did the encore, Hendrix’s Little Wing.

Some photos of the gig will be added soon to the Pictures page.

Management update

The band asnnounces that it has parted company with its manager, Violet Pepper, by mutual consent. All enquiries regarding bookings etc should be directed to info@adjournments.co.uk

21st July 2008

And then they were 6

The Adjournments announce another expansion. Joining the band on piano is Stephen Devine, a well known face on the Scottish gig circuit as a solo artist and accompanist.

Stephen’s sophisticated piano sound will make its Adjournments debut at the Barrowland 2 gig next weekend.

Newlands Park

The Adjournments will play a Community Council event at Newlands Park, Glasgow on 6th September 2008. Free entry.

16th June 2008

Kris Kristofferson

Some of the boys have foolishly agreed to take part in a tribute night for the 72nd birthday of KK. Labelled in a Blues Brothers stylee, the Good Ole Adjournments, see country being played a whole new way, by guys who don’t actually know any of the big man’s songs.

When and where: Sunday 22nd June 2008, MacSorleys, Jamaica Street, Glasgow. Live acts from 5pm onwards.

Band news

The boys have recently teamed up with a piano player, who is currently sitting in on rehearsals. Further details to follow. From what we’ve seen so far, this is a major expansion of the band. Once upon a time, their sound was minimalist. Now they are getting close to orchestral.

Barrowland tickets

Tickets for the upcoming Barrowland 2 gig available shortly from the band direct. It’s fair to say that we have had a lot of interest in this gig so we’re trying to get the allocation as soon as possible.

Mail us at info@adjournments.co.uk to reserve tickets meantime.

4th June 2008

Pitlochry

The new line up of the Adjournments made its debut at the Fishers Hotel on Friday 30th May, and a storming set it was too. In fact, the boys enjoyed themselves so much that they had to cut a couple of songs out.

A big thanks to Tom’s brother Tony for doing the unglamorous job of roadie - soundman, a thankless task normally. The band sounded great, and probably the best it’s ever been.

The new guys deserve great credit for getting to grips with the material so quickly and putting in many hours of rehearsal in the last few weeks.

Look out for some pictures of the gig on this site shortly.

Finally, as ever a big thanks to those who came to see the band (some travelling a long way and making a weekend of it), and to those who bought our CDs.

Hopefully we will be making a return visit to this venue sometime in 2008.

7th April 2008

Barrowland gig confirmed

The Adjournments are playing at Barrowland 2, Glasgow on Saturday 2nd August. Further details of the gig will be announced shortly.

31st March 2008

Band news

The Adjournments are pleased to announce that their line up is once again complete with the addition of Mr John G on bass.

John is an international man of mystery whose list of musical credits is too long to mention here. However, surely the highlight of his career before the Adjournments must have been starring with one Syd E Fox (whatever happened to him?) in Practice McGulpin and the Metal Carryout.

Look out for biog pages for the new guys shortly.

And there’s more. The band is also under new management. The band are happy to report that they have appointed Violet Pepper as their manager.

23rd February 2008

Coming your way

The Adjournments are getting back on the road in the spring, with a gig in Pitlochry on 30th May the first to be announced. Further details to follow.

11th February 2008

Return of the Adjournments

Spring is in the air, and the Mighty Adjournments are coming out of hibernation after an enforced 4 month break.

The band is leaner and meaner, and ready to rock. There have however been changes along the way.

As already reported, Stevie has taken his leave of the band. The band continues to search for a full time replacement on bass, Watch this space.See below for details on the vacancy.

Also, the band announces that Calum has left the band to pursue other interests. The Adjournments wish him well and thank him for his massive contribution to the sound of the band since 2004. Taking over on drums is none other than TOM DOCHERTY, who is well known to those who have followed the Adjournments. He has already gigged with the band, having had a spell as an Adjournment in 2006.

The band has further plans to recruit a piano player in the next few months.

Look out for further info on planned gigs in 2008.

5th Birthday

It may not feel like it (it feels longer!) but the Adjournments will celebrate their 5th anniversary during the course of 2008. To mark this milestone, the boys intend to get out and about more than they have over the last couple of years, culminating in a special birthday party later this year. Watch this space for more info.

25th January 2008

Adjournment for Stevie

After nearly 4 years with the band, bassist Stevie has decided that’s enoigh to be going on with and has taken indefinite leave of absence. The remaining Adjournments wish him well and thank him for his fantastic contribution to the sound and development of the band, not least of which his brilliant bass lines on “Allegedly...”

Situation vacant: Bass player required

As a consequence of the above, the band are now looking to recruit a new bass player. The job spec is as follows:

Job: Turn up, play bass

Qualifications: 1) Own a bass. Possession of an amp and cable to go along with it would be a good bonus. 2)  Be able to play blues, preferably in more than one key.

Career prospects: Don’t be silly. We have some gigs pending though.

Interested? Then contact us at info@adjournments .co.uk.We want to speak to you.

12th December 2007

Bananas

Syd and Jim played a few of the tracks from “Allegedly...” at the Blue Banana at the Bon Accord, Glasgow last night. It was a great night with some superb acts on.

“Turn me on” was a particular favourite on the night.

This may yet prove to be a regular exclursion for the boys.

3rd December 2007

Forthcoming attractions

The band has decided to take the rest of 2007 off after a fairly hectic year and a half which has seen the recording and release of their CD, and various live shows.

Early in 2007, they plan to get back together to work on material for the new album, which currently has the working title “More songs about curries and women”.

Meantime, Jim MacD can be seen doing a solo slot, backed by “The Reclaimers” at a charity gig at the Queens Hall, Edinburgh on Saturday 8th December. It’s ticket only, nut tickets are free from the Queens Hall Box Office.

ROCKERS GIG ON 4th OCTOBER

Thanks to everyone who came along to the recent gig at Rockers. It was regrettably a rather flat occasion, and this was unfortunately to do in no small part with some antics which occurred prior to doors opening. Let’s just say that we and other bands did not appreciate being told that the event might be cancelled when we had been marketing the gig for weeks up to that point.

The on stage sound was also very disappointing although it seems it sounded fine out front.

We hope that this was an organisational blip on Rockers’ part, since it is normally a great venue.

23rd August 2007

And then there were 5

That’s right, the Adjournments (Scotland’s favourite power trio for the innumerate), are pleased to announce an expansion.

Joining the band is Jim “the Sax” McCann, on saxophone funnily enough. He has foolishly agreed to become a fully paid up Adjournment after sitting in on some of the band’s summer rehearsals.

The new 5 piece Adjournments will be back out live in the autumn, with some gigs planned for further afield than usual. Watch this space. Look out for a whole lot of new songs in the set when the band gets back out on the road - just to prove that it has indeed been working over the summer :)

20th July 2007

Forthcoming gigs and attractions

Look out for news of further Glasgow gigs shortly.

Also, the band are currently in discussions relating to an appearance at a music festival later in 2007. More details to follow.

21st June 2007

The last few weeks have been a busy time for the band, and here’s a short summary of what’s on at the moment, and what’s been going on.

Rockers and new DVD

Once again, many thanks to all who came along to the band’s last outing at Rockers, Glasgow on 31st May. It was a great night, with some fantastic bands on the bill. The stage was hotter than the sun. Proper rock and roll!

How Blue Can You Get once again was a stormer and as ever, the finale of Red House was great. A new song, “Travelling Man”, was aired for the first time, and this went down extremely well.

The good news is that the gig was filmed. 2 video clips have been posted on You Tube and can be accessed via the links on our “music” page. However, the whole gig will shortly be released on a limited edition DVD “In Session”. Details of release date coming soon.

The website has been revamped to include an online shop. At the moment, “Allegedly” can be purchased online from the site, but it is hoped that further items will be added shortly including the DVD mentioned above and also an Adjournments T shirt. More details to follow.

21st March 2007

Edinburgh gig

A big thanks to all who made the journey through to Whistlebinkies, Edinburgh last night. It was an unexpectedly good gig, with a fair crowd for a cold Tuesday. How blue can you get proved to be a hit with the locals, and the finale of See Saw and a rather outrageous version of Red House went down well too.

9th March 2007

Breaking News (literally)

Calum has broken his kick drum ankle in 3 places and thus is probably out of action for the rest of the year.

The band is pleased to announce that Tom Docherty, formerly of  Hugh Reed and the Velvet Underpants, has agreed to come in and help out in the meantime. Tom is no stranger to the band, having featured in its early stages.

This turn of events has caused a re-schedule of the planned CD launch gig, but further details will be given shortly.

Please note that the gig at the Soundry, Pharaohs, Coatbridge will go ahead.
